Blü Slate

about.

Blü Slate is an outdoor chair inspired by the landscapes of Gaspésie. Built entirely by hand, the chair combines solid ash wood with recycled blue wood recovered from the shoreline, turning the found material into a visible structural element.

first sketches.

The project began with sketch and prototype studies exploring the chair’s low-slung posture, angled frame, and slatted structure. These early tests helped define the balance between comfort, stability, and material expression.

workshop process.

The chair was developed through hands-on wood crafting: cutting, shaping, assembling, and testing the ash frame and recycled blue slats. The process focused on making the construction readable rather than hiding how the object is built.

assembly & outcome.

The final chair uses a simple assembly sequence and exposed slatted construction. Its ash structure supports the body, while the asymmetric blue pieces keep the shoreline material visible as part of the chair's identity.
